Ms. Ruby J. Cain

Vice-President

A native of Edgefield County, Ms. Cain retired after 25 years of working for Hubbell Power Systems. She is passionate about helping other people as she once needed a helping hand herself. She and her husband, James, adopted a child, Latavia, and when her child was just nine years old, her husband died of colon cancer.

“James was diagnosed with colon cancer and died two weeks later,” she said. “I became a single parent working third shift. I needed help in raising Latavia and coping. My two sisters, Jeanette and Mary, along with others, stepped up. To this day, I thank God for the support I received. I feel it’s imperative for me to give back and help anyone in our community who needs it.”

Ms. Evelyn Mitchell

Treasurer

A native of Edgefield County, Ms. Evelyn Mitchell is passionate about helping others. Her main focus is children, who she believes could be well served by gaining better social skills. “Children need good social skills to go into the workforce, so my hope for Moores Empowerment Foundation is that we can develop a mentoring program to help bring them along.”

Ms. Mitchell owned a restaurant business for 20 years and worked as a school bus driver for 19 years. “To this day, kids from my bus route still remember me and we enjoy talking.”

Sharon Hammond

Secretary

A native of Edgefield County. Ms. Hammond has worked in county government for 12 years. She works in Voter Registration and Elections. Ms. Hammond takes pride in training poll workers and educating people about the voting process. She is excited about Moores Empowerment Foundation because it can reach those who need attention. “During Covid, a lot of people were laid off and they were not able to go back to work so these folks are under-insured or not insured. We have an opportunity to provide services that are lacking in this community.”
